Image Intensifiers

Image Intensifiers

Lambert Instruments Image Intensifiers are Low Light Level camera attachments, generally containing an image intensifier tube integrated with a high voltage power supply and a relay lens. The image intensifier tube takes care of amplifying the brightness in the visible and near infrared of the observed scene, so that a dimly lit scene can be viewed by a camera or the human eye.

The Lambert image intensifier’s can be mounted on any standard CCD camera with a C-mount input. A C-mount lens can be connected to the input side of the image intensifier. Applying an image intensifier will allow image acquisition at very low light levels and relatively high speed with a normal B/W CCD camera. Depending on the application, Lambert Instruments image intensifiers can be equipped with different types of photocathode and phosphor.

Lambert Image Intensifier II18 /G/GD/GDF
Lambert Image Intensifier II18 /G/GD/GDF

The Lambert Image Intensifier II18 is a low-light-level camera attachment that can be coupled to a monochrome (B/W) video camera. The Lambert Image Intensifier II18 increases the sensitivity of the camera and enables the detection of images at a light level as low as 10-5lux. The spectral sensitivity can be matched to the application.

Gating:
The II18G is the gated version of the Lambert image intensifier II18. The gating option offers the possibility to use the image intensifier as an ultra fast Electro-optical shutter with minimum exposure time down to 40ns (optional 3ns – II18GDF). Through gating the input light range is extended significantly, offering unique options for time resolved experiments.

Lambert High Speed Image Intensifier HiCATT
Lambert High Speed Image Intensifier HiCATT

The HiCATT, high-speed intensified camera attachment was designed to be used in combination with a high-speed camera. The image intensifier HiCATT, will increase the sensitivity of the high-speed camera and allow low-light-level imaging applications at frame rates up to 200.000 fps. The HiCATT, high-speed camera attachment is connected (F-mount or C-mount) to the high-speed camera for optimal flexibility.

Lambert Modulated Image Intensifier II18MD
Lambert Modulated Image Intensifier II18MD
The II18MD is an Image Intensifier with an 18mm diameter input screen that can be Modulated in the range of 10-120 MHz and is Digitally controlled. The II18MD modulated image intensifier is used as key component for FLIM -Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy in the frequency domain. However, another interesting application is Diffuse Optical Tomography (DOT), e.g. for three-dimensional in vivo imaging of human breast tumor to distinguish benign and malignant lesions.

Lambert Cooled Image Intensifier LICI
Lambert Cooled Image Intensifier LICI

The LICI - Lambert Cooled Image Intensifier is a special camera attachment in which the complete Image Intensifier is cooled down to -25°C to reduce the noise of the photocathode. The noise reduction factor is at least 100, which means, that in combination with a low noise S20 photocathode, dark count rates below 0,5cnts/sec/cm2!!! can be achieved. This makes it possible to acquire extremely faint phenomena or counting single events which otherwise would have been masked by the noise of the image intensifier.
