Modulated LED

Modulated LED with control unit
The Modulated LED light source can be used as the excitation light source in FLIM –fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy systems that operate in the frequency domain. Modulated LEDs of different wavelength bands are available. The output light intensity can be varied over a wide range and the maximum excitation power available at the sample is comparable with that of other light sources.
Components
The Modulated LED consists of an RF-shielded LED assembly that is fitted in the standard mercury lamp housing as provided by the main microscope suppliers. The LED DC current of the Modulated LED can be controlled digitally by the software as well as manually. The Power Supply / Control Unit -PS/CU, connected to the Modulated LED assembly, provides the LED AC and DC power. This Power Supply / Control Unit has a built-in RF amplifier that amplifies the modulation -AC signal. An USB interface and control software provide the digital control of the Power Supply / Control Unit.
Set-up
The lamp housing has to be connected to a widefield fluorescence microscope, providing it with the modulated, non-coherent light from the LED. An external signal generator should control the modulation frequency and amplitude and has to be connected to the Power Supply / Control Unit to provide this modulation signal.
