The HI-CAM is a gated intensified high-speed camera that records images up to 1825 fps at light levels down to 10^-4 lux. This gated intensified high-speed camera allows image recording of fast events at high time resolution. At the same time the HI-CAM, gated intensified high-speed camera offers single photon detection capability. Fast moving objects are recorded sharply by shuttering the image intensifier down to 40ns, optionally 5ns.

The image intensifier is specially designed for the use in high speed cameras; photocathodes with different spectral response from the UV until the near IR are available; enhanced maximum output brightness results in a optimal signal/noise ratio at high frame rate. The image intensifier is coupled to the CMOS sensor by using tapered fibre optics that matches the image intensifier to the sensor format.
